Establishment
The Geography Department Doctoral program was established in 1992 under the Institute of Social Sciences.
Degree Awarded
Graduates of the program are entitled to receive a Doctorate degree in Geography.
Admission and Registration Requirements
Students wishing to enroll in the doctoral program must complete the processes/pass the exams determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) within the framework of the university's academic and legal regulations. Student admission and application conditions are published on the Ondokuz Mayıs University website (www.omu.edu.tr) before the start of the academic term. A student who has started their studies in an equivalent program domestically or abroad may apply for a transfer. Student admissions are reviewed and evaluated individually before the start of the term, taking into account each student's conditions and the degree they are applying for. Students from abroad participating in exchange programs approved by the university and defined by an agreement may take courses offered in the Institute's Department.
**Rules Regarding Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, informal, non-formal)
Students studying at the Institute of Social Sciences may be exempt from certain courses within the framework of specific regulations. If the content of a course taken at another institution is deemed equivalent to the relevant program of the institute, and if it is suitable for the course content and approved by the relevant faculty/institute directorate, the student may be exempted from that course.

Program Profile
The aim of doctoral programs is to equip students with the most up-to-date information in their respective fields and to update their existing knowledge. The goal of the MBA program is to cultivate a high-quality workforce with advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, critical and creative thinking abilities, the capacity to establish and maintain effective relationships, effective teamwork, initiative, risk and change management, and adherence to business ethics. Through this program, students will gain the opportunity to understand the factors surrounding businesses within a global perspective and will take significant steps towards making a difference both personally and professionally. Upon completion of the program, students will have a solid foundation enabling them to work in their fields both in Turkey and worldwide.

Transition to Higher Degree Programs
Those who successfully complete the PhD program can apply for teaching positions in relevant departments of universities, provided they meet the necessary requirements.
Exams, Assessment and Evaluation
Exams are held on the dates, at the specified locations and times, as announced by the university. Students are required to attend classes and take exams. Student attendance is monitored by the course instructor. All exams are graded out of 100 points, and each course includes a midterm exam (or in-term assignment) and a final exam. In courses with midterm and final exams, the passing grade is calculated by taking 40% of the midterm exam grade and 60% of the final exam grade.
Graduation Requirements
For students starting with a master's degree, the doctoral program consists of at least 8 courses totaling no less than 28 credits, a qualifying exam, a thesis proposal, seminars, and thesis work. For students admitted with a bachelor's degree, it consists of at least 15 courses totaling 52 credits, a qualifying exam, a thesis proposal, 2 seminars, and thesis work. Students who complete these requirements will be able to graduate from the doctoral program.
